Adult Education at Ahavat Achim

PIRKEI AVOT Join Rabbi Goldstein on Monday mornings at 9:15 am for a class on Pirkei Avot.

 

GEMARAH SHIUR Join Rabbi Goldstein every Shabbat afternoon approximately one hour before Mincha.

 

PARSHA CLASS A weekly Parsha class with the Rabbi takes place every Tuesday evening at 8:30 pm.

 

CHUMASH CLASS Jerry Halpern gives a shiur every Shabbat morning from 8:00 – 8:45 am.  Men and women are invited to attend. We are studying Toldos.

 

HISTORY CLUB History Club will meet on Sunday June 1 at 8pm at the Kustanowitz home.  We will see a film on the Shanghai Ghetto and discuss Farewell Shanghai by Angel Wagenstein, a novel about the experience. There are a few interesting memoirs about the period - the most fact-filled is by Ernst Heppner, the most entertaining is by Ursula Bacon.  Many alumni of that experience went on to significant success in the US.

The Gita Cooperwasser Youth Program appreciates your ideas and suggestions.  The committee is focuses on creating a meaningful Shabbos in the Shul for our kids.  Please contact someone on the committee: Ilana Schwitzer at ilanatree@aol.com, Renee Freund, Eli Greenbaum, Sara Bernstein, Arnie Spier and/or the Rabbi. 

PRE-K MINYAN Julie Goldstein leads our Junior Congregation for those children in pre-K through 2nd grade.  Younger children are welcome when accompanied by a parent.


JUNIOR CONGREGATION The Junior Congregation for boys in grades 3-6 takes place in the Beit Midrash at 10:15am led by this week’s group leaders, while the girls meet in the classroom.

YAHRZEIT PLAQUES Memorialize a loved one and receive written notice of your upcoming yahrzeit every year. In addition, your loved one’s name will be mentioned during the public yizkor we recite on Yom Kippur.  Plaques are $250 for members and $350 for non-members.  Please note that as of July 1, 2008 the price will increase to $300 for members and $350 for non-members. MITZVAH CARDS

Contact Eita Latkin at 791-8940 or via email at parentsof3@aol.com.   Mitzvah cards sent through Eita cost $3 and those sent to shul members will be acknowledged in the shul bulletin.   Mitzvah cards can also be ordered in bulk.  Ten cards will be sent to your home for $25.  These cards (which you send out yourself) cannot be acknowledged in the bulletin.

Fair Lawn Jewish Community Events and Highlights

 

RIDE WITH ISRAEL On Sunday, May 18th 2008, the Fair Lawn Jewish Community Council in conjunction with the UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey will hold “RIDE WITH ISRAEL AT 60,” a bike ride in Fair Lawn in honor of Israel's 60th birthday.  This community-wide bike ride will coincide with bike rides across Israel that will take place May 18-May 22nd.  Please mark the date on your calendar.  In addition to participants, we are looking for volunteers for the event.  Please contact Eileen Dubin at 201-797-3717 or at erdubin@optonline.net if you can volunteer. Registration on May 18th will begin at 9:30am, the ride will start at 10:00am and the program will conclude at approximately 12noon.
