SUMMARY:Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:Hi Friends\,\nAs you are likely aware\, the federal funding for
  SNAP benefits has been frozen. (SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assist
 ance Program which provides food to those in need). The freeze went into e
 ffect on November 1st.&nbsp\;\nOn Monday\, the current administration anno
 unced that SNAP would be funded\, but only partially at about 50% of the t
 ypical support. A further complication is that it will take weeks for thes
 e partial benefits to go into effect.&nbsp\;\nIn this short span of time f
 ood banks across the country have had a surge of people in need and there 
 is concern over how escalating demand will be met in the coming weeks. The
 re is concern that the scale of this nation-wide shutdown has caused rippl
 e effects that could lead to a national food crisis.\nSome of the most vul
 nerable populations in need:&nbsp\;\n\n\n 	\nChildren&nbsp\;- represent 40
 % of SNAP recipients\n\n 	\nElderly&nbsp\;- with limited resources\, and w
 ho may be homebound\, represent ~ 20% of SNAP recipients\n\n\nAhavat Achim
  has partnered with Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) of NJ to 
 host a food drive. We will be providing much needed aid to our most vulner
 able in this difficult time when the most basic of needs - food -&nbsp\; i
 s in question.&nbsp\;\nBins are located in the lobby of our shul to collec
 t various non-perishable food items.&nbsp\;\nPlease&nbsp\;donate&nbsp\;wha
 t you can as often as you can from now&nbsp\;through November 25th.&nbsp\;
