Hi Friends,

As you are likely aware, the federal funding for SNAP benefits has been frozen. (SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program which provides food to those in need). The freeze went into effect on November 1st.

On Monday, the current administration announced that SNAP would be funded, but only partially at about 50% of the typical support. A further complication is that it will take weeks for these partial benefits to go into effect.

In this short span of time food banks across the country have had a surge of people in need and there is concern over how escalating demand will be met in the coming weeks. There is concern that the scale of this nation-wide shutdown has caused ripple effects that could lead to a national food crisis.

Some of the most vulnerable populations in need:

Ahavat Achim has partnered with Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) of NJ to host a food drive. We will be providing much needed aid to our most vulnerable in this difficult time when the most basic of needs – food –  is in question.

Bins are located in the lobby of our shul to collect various non-perishable food items.

Please donate what you can as often as you can from now through November 25th.

See the flyer for the most needed items.

Other ways to donate: There are also links to donate money and/or buy needed items from an Amazon wishlist.

Let’s be a part of the solution, together we can help!

~Chesed @ Ahavat AchimAre you interested in volunteering time (instead of, or in addition to, food/money)?
